The Gulf Coast Chapter began operating portable and interactive toy train layouts for the enjoyment
of young and old alike during 2001. It fulfills TCA´s community outreach and fellowship missions plus
gives kids of any age a chance to operate toy trains and related accessories like their ancestors. Trains
were a very popular toy enjoyed by many ´Baby Boomers´ in their early years.
Our third version was rolled out at the Chapter´s summer swap meet on June 12, 2010. The picture shows
this layout that measures 4 x 12 feet and stands 20 inches high. Kids can walk along the left side and
depress small red button switches to operate the trains and accessories. Thomas, James, and Diesel are
some of the popular locomotives you will see at selected area train shows.
Chapter members handle the control panel on the layout´s right side and at least 3 or 4 adults are
usually on site during a show. It is fun for all and we believe that children who grow-up with hobbies
will become good citizens.
